| | Moving lights or inteligent lights as they are sometimes called, are provided by professional lighting hire and rental companies for use in conferences, theatre shows, parties and events. Popular makes such as Robe, Martin, Clay Paky and Vari-Lite make a range of moving lights using LED as well as arc-lamp technology, with LED slowly taking over due to their low power consumption, weight and versatility.
There are different type of moving light, from wash moving lights that provide a moving colour wash, profile moving lights that project patterns, and beam moving lights that shoot a sharp laser like beam of colour changing light as well as a the beam being profiled by a gobo.
There are two ways of making moving and inteligent lights move their beam of light output, being mirror, where the beam is projected onto a moving mirror, and yolk, where the entire head of the light moves on a yolk. Moving lights are usually controlled via DMX, but some also accept other protocols like ArtNet. |
